The East Siberian Sea is located on the eastern Siberian Shelf between the New Siberian Islands in the west and Wrangel Island in the east. Its boundaries are not very disfinct. The East Siberian Sea is a very wide and shallow shelf region with a large area less than 50 m deep.

The sea shores and icefields have ringed seals, bearded seals and walruses along polar bears. Birds include seagulls, uria and cormorants.
